The FUJIFILM X-H2S is a high-performance camera designed for professional photographers and videographers. It features the FUJIFILM X mount, which is compatible with a wide range of FUJIFILM lenses, offering flexibility for various shooting conditions.
Image Sensor and Processing Engine
Equipped with a 23.5mm x 15.6mm (APS-C) X-Trans CMOS 5 HS sensor, the camera captures stunning images with 26.16 million effective pixels. The sensor is coupled with the advanced X-Processor 5, ensuring fast processing speeds and high image quality. The sensor also includes an Ultra Sonic Vibration cleaning system to minimize dust.
Storage Media and File Formats
The camera supports multiple storage media types, including SD cards (up to 2TB) and CFexpress Type B cards, providing ample storage for high-resolution files. For still images, it offers a variety of formats including JPEG (Exif Ver.2.32), HEIF (4:2:2 10-bit), RAW (14-bit), and TIFF (8-bit/16-bit).
Image Resolution and Sensitivity
The X-H2S provides multiple resolution settings for still images:
- Large: 6240 x 4160 (3:2), 6240 x 3512 (16:9), 4160 x 4160 (1:1)
- Medium: 4416 x 2944 (3:2), 4416 x 2488 (16:9), 2944 x 2944 (1:1)
- Small: 3120 x 2080 (3:2), 3120 x 1760 (16:9), 2080 x 2080 (1:1)
For sensitivity, the camera offers a range from ISO 160 to ISO 12800, extendable to ISO 80 and up to ISO 51200 for still images. In movie mode, the ISO range is also ISO 160 to ISO 12800, extendable to ISO 25600.
Exposure Control and Compensation
The camera utilizes a TTL 256-zone metering system with Multi, Spot, Average, and Center Weighted modes. It supports multiple exposure modes including Program AE, Aperture Priority AE, Shutter Speed Priority AE, and Manual Exposure. Exposure compensation is available for stills (-5.0EV to +5.0EV) and movies (-2.0EV to +2.0EV) in 1/3EV steps.
Image Stabilization and Shutter Speed
The X-H2S boasts an image sensor shift mechanism with 5-axis compensation, offering a compensation effect of up to 7.0 stops. The shutter system includes a mechanical shutter with speeds from 15 minutes to 1/8000 sec, and an electronic shutter with speeds from 15 minutes to 1/32000 sec. The camera also features various combinations of mechanical and electronic shutter settings.
Continuous Shooting and Drive Modes
For high-speed action shots, the camera supports continuous shooting:
- Up to 40fps with the electronic shutter (with various frame limits depending on the file format)
- Several modes for drive operations including AE Bracketing, Film Simulation Bracketing, Dynamic Range Bracketing, ISO Sensitivity Bracketing, White Balance Bracketing, and Focus Bracketing.
Advanced Features
The camera offers Multiple Exposure modes (up to 9 frames) and HDR Mode settings ranging from AUTO to 800%+. Advanced filters include Toy Camera, Miniature, Pop Color, High-Key, Low-Key, Dynamic Tone, Soft Focus, and Partial Color options.
Autofocus and Flash
The autofocus system includes Intelligent Hybrid AF with low-light performance up to -7.0EV. It also features face and eye detection, as well as subject detection for animals, birds, automobiles, motorcycles, airplanes, and trains. The EF-X8 flash has a guide number of 11 (ISO 100) or 16 (ISO 200) and supports hot-shoe sync.
Viewfinder and LCD Monitor
The 0.5-inch OLED viewfinder has approximately 5.76 million dots with 100% coverage and a 0.8x magnification. The 3.0-inch vari-angle LCD monitor has approximately 1.62 million dots and is touch-sensitive, offering flexibility in composition and review.
Movie Recording Capabilities
The camera excels in video with support for MOV and MP4 formats, and recording frame rates up to 6.2K at 29.97p. It can record continuously for up to 90 minutes in 4K/6.2K or 240 minutes in Full HD. The camera also supports Apple ProRes formats and offers audio recording with built-in stereo microphones and external microphone compatibility.
Connectivity and Terminals
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) and Bluetooth 4.2. The camera features a range of terminals: HDMI micro connector (Type D), USB Type-C, 3.5mm microphone/remote release and headphone connectors, hot-shoe, and sync terminal.
- X-H2S is the first X Series camera to feature the 26.1-megapixel, X-Trans 5 stacked back-illuminated sensor. Building on the unique X-Trans color filter array that minimizes moir and false colors, placing the sensors circuitry on a separate layer from the pixels delivers outstanding image quality thanks to expanded low light capabilities and up to 14-stops of dynamic range. Allied to the sensor is the new X-Processor 5, offering lightning-fast performance for the most demanding situations. Capable of handling vast amounts of data, X-Processor 5 delivers next-level performance enhancements in video and stills processing capabilities and a 5.76 million dot resolution EVF, alongside advanced, intelligent autofocus functionality thats 3x faster than Fujifilms preceding X-T4 model.
- Powerful video features make X-H2S a go-to device both for hybrid image makers and dedicated motion professionals. Up to 90 minutes of footage can be internally recorded with a single battery, at a wide range of resolutions and frame rates up to 6.2K/30P in Open Gate 3:2, 4K/120P, and Full HD/240P. This delivers unparalleled flexibility within the X Series lineup. Additionally, the ability to record 10-bit 4:2:2 Apple ProRes footage internally to CFexpress Type B memory cards offers incredible post-production flexibility, while the X-Trans 5 sensors 14-stop dynamic range optimizes the level of image detail across a uniquely wide exposure range.
- The autofocusing system in X-H2S is not only quick, but also highly advanced. Capable of working in light levels down to -7EV and keeping up with both fast and erratically moving subjects, it now features Subject Detection autofocus, utilizing AI to deliver an unmatched autofocus performance. Whereas previous X Series models offer Face and Eye Detection AF, X-H2Ss Subject Detection AF broadens the range of identifiable subjects to further enhance focusing accuracy. The new system has the ability to identify and track cars, planes, trains, motorcyclists, birds, horses, dogs, cats and more. Furthermore, face and eye detection capabilities have been expanded to pick up hairlines, glasses, and face coverings.
- X-H2S delivers powerful performance, suitable for any professional photographer or filmmaker. Continuous shooting is possible at 15 frames-per-second with the mechanical shutter, and up to 40 frames-per-second when the electronic shutter is deployed. These impressive speeds are backed up by the cameras high-capacity buffer, which allows unlimited continuous recording and writing of JPEG and RAW files to a high-speed memory card when using the mechanical shutter. Creative possibilities abound with by the cameras in-body image stabilization system, offering up to seven stops of shake reduction to give the handheld user true versatility.
- In addition to a wide range of internal video recording features, X-H2S provides significant flexibility for external recording. F-Log or F-Log2, Apple ProRes RAW and Blackmagic RAW footage can all be recorded to an external device through the cameras standard, Type A HDMI port.
