The M EV1 is the first M with a built-in electronic viewfinder: a 5.76 MP, 0.76x panel that shows exposure and focus before the shutter fires, in front of the same 60 MP full-frame BSI sensor and Maestro III processor the M11 family uses. The 35 is the classic reportage angle of view at f/1.4.

The current 35 Summilux focuses to 0.4 m. It is rangefinder-coupled to 0.7 m, and the last stretch from 0.7 m to 0.4 m is composed through Live View or the Leica FOTOS app, which is exactly the range the M EV1's finder handles on its own, so the close-focus range stops being a workaround. Eleven aperture blades keep the out-of-focus areas round, and a double-cam gear nearly doubles the focus throw to 176 degrees. Worth knowing before you order: the silver lens against the black M EV1 body is a deliberate two-tone pairing, not a matched set. The First M with a Built-In Viewfinder

The M EV1 puts a 5.76-megapixel, 0.5-inch electronic viewfinder into the M body, with 0.76x magnification, 100% frame coverage, diopter adjustment from -4 to +2, and an eye sensor that switches between the finder and the rear screen. You see exposure and color as the sensor renders them, not as an optical finder approximates them.

Focus Aids That Suit a Fast 35

Focus Peaking marks the sharp plane in color, Focus Aid magnifies at two levels, and Digital Zoom crops the JPG at 1.3x or 1.8x while leaving the DNG whole. At f/1.4 with a shallow plane of focus, these are the tools that make the difference, and they work through the finder rather than only on the back screen.

0.4 m Close Focus, Eleven Blades

The current Summilux-M 35 reaches 0.4 m: rangefinder-coupled to 0.7 m, then extended through Live View, the Visoflex, or the Leica FOTOS app. On the M EV1 that extended range is simply what the built-in finder shows. Eleven aperture blades give a rounder opening and smoother background rendering, and a floating element with anomalous partial dispersion glass holds correction across the focus range.

60 MP, Three Resolutions

The 60-megapixel full-frame BSI CMOS sensor has up to 15 stops of dynamic range, and Triple Resolution Technology writes at 60, 36, or 18 megapixels so you can pick file size to match the job. 64 GB of internal memory sits behind the SD slot as a fallback or a second destination.

The M EV1 is handmade in Germany with a magnesium and aluminum housing, a clean front with no rangefinder window, diamond-pattern leatherette, and a body 46 g lighter than the black M11-P.
