The Leica M11 Black Paint "20 Jahre" Leica Store San Francisco marks twenty years of Leica retail in the city, and it is limited to 10 pieces sold only through Leica Store San Francisco and Camera West. Under the edition markings it is a full M11: a 60.3MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution Technology, native ISO 64 with up to 15 stops of dynamic range, and the Maestro III processor keeping it responsive at any file size.

The front of the top plate carries the classic "20 Jahre" engraving and the back is engraved "Leica Store San Francisco." The high gloss black paint is part of the point. It wears, and the marks it picks up become the record of where the camera has been, the same way black paint M bodies have always aged. The Engravings

The front of the top plate carries the classic "20 Jahre" engraving, the same treatment Leica has used on anniversary editions going back decades. The back is engraved "Leica Store San Francisco." Ten pieces were made, available only through Leica Store San Francisco and Camera West stores.

Paint That Keeps Time

The high gloss black paint finish is meant to be used. Photographers are already sensitive to time: we set shutter speeds to a fraction of a second, we wait out a development tank, we come back to a picture years later to see what we missed. A black paint body does the same work in reverse, holding the marks of where it has been. Some of these will stay in collections and some will go out and earn a patina.

A Full M11 Underneath

None of the edition treatment changes what the camera does. The BSI CMOS sensor records 60.3, 36.5, or 18.4 megapixels in both DNG and JPG, always using the full sensor surface rather than cropping. Leica removed the baseplate for direct access to the battery, USB-C port, and SD card, and added 64GB of internal memory so you can record to two places at once.
