This was the first Leica M lens to pair a 28 mm focal length with an f/1.4 maximum aperture, a combination well suited to reportage, documentary, travel, and street photography in demanding light.

High Performance Wide Open

A 10-element, 7-group design delivers strong performance across the whole field even at full aperture, aided by one aspherical surface, several anomalous-partial-dispersion elements, and three cemented elements for color correction. A rear floating element sustains quality up close.

Character and Control

From infinity to the 0.7 m close-focus distance you get high contrast and clear detail, with gentle subject separation and harmonious bokeh wide open. Distortion is very low for a wide-angle at roughly 1.1%.

Compact, Classic M Handling

The well-balanced barrel uses a click-stop aperture with half-stop settings down to f/16, a combined meter/foot focusing scale, and a screw-on lens hood, all on a Leica M bayonet.
