Ultra-compact fast prime w/ G series lens quality and performance
The high-quality G Lens optical design incorporates three aspherical lens elements for sharp detail and outstanding corner-to-corner resolution. In addition, the state-of-the-art optical design takes maximum advantage of the short flange back, unique to mirrorless cameras, to realize stunning compactness at 68mm diameter x 45mm and a weight of only 173g. Mobility is a key feature, preserving the compactness of the overall E-mount system whether shooting with a full-frame or APS-C body or shooting either still images or movie.
Beautiful natural bokeh
The F2.5 max aperture is ideal for low-light situations for maximum light gathering capability while also providing a shallow depth of field. Beautiful natural bokeh expected from a G Lens is delivered with minimal spherical aberration and provision of a 7-blade circular aperture for round defocused light sources.
Corner-to-corner sharpness
High image quality is realized by the inclusion of three aspherical lens elements compensate for various aberrations, delivering high resolution performance from corner to corner of the image, even from the widest aperture with shallow depth of field.
7-blade circular aperture
While conventional aperture blades have flat sides that create unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light, the FE 40mm F2.5 G incorporates a 7-blade circular aperture mechanism to maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture prime-lens. The wide f2.5 aperture and circular aperture blades contribute to impressive images in which the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused foreground and background, as well as perfectly round points of defocused light.
Two Linear motors for fast, precise autofocus tracking
Taking full advantage of the continuing rapid advances in the speed and performance of newer camera bodies, two linear motors are used in the FE 40mm F2.5 G lens to deliver fast, precise AF (autofocus) with excellent tracking performance. Tracking is maintained despite instantaneous changes in subject motion, making the lens ideal for situations require tracking a moving subject.
Natural, linear manual focus response
Linear Response MF (manual focus) ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise in both still and movie modes.
Close-ups in a standard field of view
Get a unique perspective through close-up, wide angle shooting. The standard 40mm angle of view is useful in applications from snap shots to movie shooting. The FE 40mm F2.5 G features an impressive minimum focus distance of 11.02” (0.28m) (AF) / 9.84” (0.25m) (MF) and maximum magnification of 0.2x (AF) / 0.24x (MF). With the wide F2.5 max. aperture, you can also shoot close-ups with beautiful blurred background bokeh.

Instant auto/manual focus selection via AF/MF switch
Instantly and quickly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you or decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you choose.
Manual aperture ring w/ selectable on/off click for stills or movie
A responsive manual aperture ring offers positive action that will satisfy photographers and moviemakers alike. The aperture ring click stops can be switched on or off as required. “Off” is the preferred setting for moviemaking since it results in the least aperture operation noise. When “On” the ring provides tactile feedback that is useful when shooting stills.
Programmable focus-hold button for multiple custom functions
The focus hold button not only performs the traditional function to lock focus when recomposing, but can be customized to a number of other functions depending on your needs. In addition to Focus Hold, these custom functions include: Eye AF, AF On, Aperture Preview, Shot Result Preview or Bright Monitoring.

The superb high-quality build uses durable metal (aluminum) for the exterior finish and hood, achieving a sophisticated look, providing satisfaction of ownership, and contributing to increased strength and durability. The iris ring indices, focal length markings, and Sony logo on the hood, are engraved rather than printed, giving a finish with a sophisticated feel.
Internal focus design
The internal focus design maintains the overall length of the lens constant when focusing, allowing easy movie shooting with a small gimbal or grip attached. Focusing with a PL filter attached is also worry-free.

We utilize various shipping carriers, with FedEx Express being our primary choice for 2-Day and Overnight shipping within the US, as well as International deliveries.
We accept returns within 14 days of delivery, subject to a restocking fee of up to 15%. This fee is not for profit, but to cover the costs associated with selling an item. Each return is evaluated individually, and we strive to minimize this fee. In many instances, we waive it entirely if the refund credit can be applied towards another item in the store.
Please note, all returned items must be in the condition in which they were shipped. If the items are returned in a different condition, we will not be able to accept them.

Please note that our inventory is distributed among our three stores, and what you see online may be at any of these locations. The location of each item is indicated online. For convenience, you can choose to pick up your item at any of our stores. Once purchased, the item should be ready for pick up within 4 hours at the designated store, although this might vary depending on the store's busyness and time of day. We request that you wait for a notification from us confirming that your order is ready for pick up, to ensure the best service.
If your chosen item is not available at your preferred store, we can transfer it there after purchase. If you want to pick up an item at a different store, select that store for pick up during checkout, or choose a regular shipping method and let us know your preferred pick up store via support@camerawest.com or by responding to your order confirmation email.

We offer a concierge trade-in program for the gear you'd like to upgrade, cross-grade, or simply pass on to a new owner. This enables you to acquire the tools that fit your specific needs. The easiest way to trade is to bring your gear into one of our stores and meet with us in person. However, we also accommodate those who can't visit our stores. Our online process is both personal and simple.
To begin, fill out the form on our Trade // Sell page with the details of the fine photographic equipment or watches you'd like to trade in. One of our team members will then contact you to confirm any details we might need for an accurate estimate. We will provide an estimate that doesn’t only look at the value of your trade in but the whole picture of where you want to go. If the estimate is satisfactory to you, we can provide a shipping label for you to ship your gear to one of our stores for a final inspection and store credit. Finally, we apply that credit towards your new gear!
