The Canon RF 24mm f/1.4 L VCM is a fast wide-angle prime built to work equally hard for stills and video. Fifteen elements in eleven groups, with two UD elements and one aspherical element, keep a wide frame corrected at f/1.4, and the coating stack (ASC, SSC, SWC, and fluorine) matters at this focal length where a bright light source often ends up inside the frame.

The barrel carries a dedicated manual iris ring, so aperture can be ridden by hand from f/1.4 to f/16 during a take, plus an AF/MF switch and a programmable function button. Focus is driven by a voice coil motor on the rear group with Nano USM on the floating group, fast for stills and quiet enough to sit near a mic. It shares the 67mm filter thread and the near-identical size and weight of the other RF L VCM primes, so filters, matte boxes, and gimbal balance carry across the set. If you own the 35mm or the 50mm VCM, the 24mm drops into the same workflow. Filters move between them without step rings.
