Technika IV, 90/120/135/180/270mm, Case 70570

This Linhof Technika IV 4x5 large format film camera, #70570, is in average cosmetic condition with regular signs of use and normal cosmetic marks. I rate it cosmetically an (8+). The camera is in proper working order; all of the movements loosen and tighten with a full range of motion, and a modern bellows has been installed. The grid and crosshair Bright Screen has some faint marks, but it is otherwise clear. This set was originally acquired by attorney Robert 'Bob' Byers Sr. from photographer Brett Weston, and was later modified by John Sexton, who removed the rangefinder and supplied the custom cover for the rangefinder housing, a common Central Coast modification of the era.

The set includes five lenses, each in similar condition and also rated an (8+). The Calumet 90mm f8 Caltar-W II MC wide-angle lens (no serial), in a Copal No. 0 shutter, has coverage up to 4x5", a 100-degree angle of view, and a 216mm image circle at f22. The shutter speed ring is smooth, but the aperture lever is a bit stiff; the shutter is accurate at all speeds and the aperture functions properly. The Rodenstock 120mm f5.6 Sironar-N lens, #10507106, in a Copal 1 shutter, has coverage up to 4x5", a 72-degree angle of view, and a 175mm image circle at f22. The shutter speed ring and aperture lever are smooth, the shutter is accurate at all speeds, and the aperture functions properly. The Schneider-Kreuznach 135mm f5.6 Symmar-S lens, #12858725, in a Copal No. 0 shutter, has coverage up to 4x5", a 70-degree angle of view, and a 100mm image circle at f22. The shutter speed ring and aperture lever are quite stiff, but the shutter is accurate at all speeds and the aperture functions properly. The Schneider-Kreuznach 180mm f5.6 double convertible lens, #10785299, in a Copal No. 1 shutter, has coverage up to 5x7", a 70-degree angle of view, and a 255mm image circle at f16. The shutter speed ring and aperture lever are smooth, the shutter is accurate at all speeds, and the aperture functions properly. By removing the front element it becomes a 315mm f12 with the same coverage, a 30-degree angle of view, and a 380mm image circle at f16. The Schneider-Kreuznach 270mm f5.5 Tele-Arton lens, #10828750, in a Synchro-Compur shutter, has coverage up to 5x7", a 37-degree angle of view, and a 178mm image circle at f22. The shutter speed ring is smooth, but the aperture lever is quite stiff; the shutter is accurate at all speeds and the aperture functions properly. In all five lenses the glass is clean and clear with no haze, marks, or fungus, with a few faint specks of dust inside that do not affect image quality. All of the filters fit all of the lenses.

This set includes a Gaoersi spanner wrench, the removed rangefinder housing, five shutter release cables, a threaded 77mm Hoya circular polarizer, Telesar R2 red, Telesar UV orange, Telesar Y2 yellow, and Telesar G green filters each with a case, five Tiffen threaded step-up rings, plastic front & rear caps for all five lenses, lens boards for all five lenses, retaining rings for all five lenses, and a vintage fitted hard case.
