About This Watch:

The Rolex GMT Master II Ref 16710 was introduced in 1989, with a slimmer case size than its predecessor, the 16760. Introduced in 1983, the GMT Master II was the first Rolex to allow independent setting of the 24-hour hand from the 12-hour hand. The Ref 16710 marked the use of a new GMT movement for Rolex, the Calibre 3185, which has a 50-hour power reserve and allowed for true independently adjustable setting of the GMT hand.

The History: The Rolex brand needs no introduction. Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis, these visionary men set out to do what had not been successfully and reliably done before. Build a timepiece to be worn on the wrist, that was both highly reliable, functional, and durable, as well as stylish. Wilsdorf’s dream was to create a watch that could accompany its owner through all facets of life and withstand any environment. His innovative approach and high standards for quality reshaped the watch industry as a whole. It has made the Rolex name synonymous with quality, innovation, and elegance.

The Watch: The Rolex GMT Master II Ref 16710 features a 40mm stainless steel case with the “Coke” style unidirectional, aluminum bezel, and a sapphire crystal. Powered by the Calibre 3185 movement, the 16710 has a water resistance rating of 100 meters. The black dial has white gold surrounds around the hour markers, Mercedes-style hands with a red arrow-tipped GMT hand, and a cyclops window over the date at the 3 o’clock position.

The Details: This Rolex GMT Master II Ref 16710 dates to the production year of 1994, with a case that appears to be unpolished. Wear present is consistent with the age of this timepiece and is visible in the photographs. The original owner had the watch serviced by Rolex in 2015. At that time, Rolex replaced the dial and hands with luminova-filled lume plots and hands, as well as replaced the crystal with an engraved crystal with the Rolex coronet. The crystal shows some light surface wear. Included with this timepiece is the 78360 Oyster bracelet with 501B end-links.
