The Canon EOS R8 is the lightest full-frame body in the EOS R line, built around the same 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processor as the EOS R6 Mark II. That combination gives you ISO 100 to 102400, bursts up to 40 fps with the electronic shutter, and uncropped 4K 60p oversampled from 6K in 10-bit, all from a body that weighs about 461 g ready to shoot.

Handling is closer to an EOS RP than a pro body, and the tradeoffs are worth naming: there is no in-body stabilization (video relies on Movie Digital IS), you get one SD slot, and the small LP-E17 battery means a spare belongs in your bag. The R8 uses the same 24.2 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processor as the EOS R6 Mark II, but in a body that weighs about 461 g with battery and card. Native ISO runs 100 to 102400 and expands to 50 or 204800. If you have been shooting APS-C and want full-frame depth of field and low-light headroom without carrying a heavier body, this is the shortest path there.

Autofocus That Sticks

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II covers roughly 100% of the frame with up to 1,053 automatically selected zones, and subject detection handles people, animals, and vehicles with eye and head tracking. Low-light sensitivity goes down to EV -6.5 with an f/1.2 lens. Burst speed reaches 40 fps with the electronic shutter, or 6 fps with the electronic first curtain.

Video Without the Clock

Uncropped UHD 4K up to 60p is oversampled from 6K, recorded 4:2:2 10-bit with Canon Log 3 or HDR PQ. At 4K 29.97 fps you get up to two hours of continuous recording, which is unusual at this price. Full HD goes to 180 fps for slow motion, and USB-C UVC/UAC output lets the camera work as a webcam without extra software.
