Finally!! A Native SL Macro.

Long had I wondered why Leica failed to produce a native macro lens for their SL system, but now they have, and all is right with the world. The macro SL world, that is. This lens is a real beauty, and the macro images are full of detail. Very sharp, with nice contrast, and excellent bokeh. The depth of field is amazing. At f2.8, the area in focus is quite shallow, falling off immediately into a pleasant blur. It is also just a fantastic 100mm lens, producing images that are sharp corner to corner. As far as I know, this is the first SL lens to have controls on the barrel. There is a switch for changing the focus distance from extreme macro, to macro, and then out to infinity. The only drawback I’ve seen is that with the SL3, the autofocus is slow to switch from subject to subject, frequently hunting forward and back. Others online have found that problem does not exist with the SL3-P, so hopefully it is something that can be addressed in a future firmware update. Other than that, I am very happy with this lens. It was well worth the wait. Thanks, Leica.

P.S. For those that care, this lens is made in Japan, not Germany .

True 1:1 Macro

Designed for macro photography at a full 1:1 reproduction ratio, this 100mm prime focuses as close as approximately 0.29 m for near life-size detail. It is equally at home as a natural-perspective portrait lens.

Apochromatic Precision

The apochromatic optical design eliminates chromatic aberrations across the entire focus range for clean, color-accurate results. A 17-element, 12-group construction maintains consistently excellent performance from f/2.8 to f/22.

Fast, Controllable Focus

A precise autofocus system includes a focus limiter to speed up focusing within macro or distance ranges, and a 9-blade aperture renders smooth out-of-focus areas. The lens is compatible with the Leica Extender L 1.4x and 2x.

Sealed for Serious Use

The robust all-metal body is dust- and splash-proof to the IP54 standard, and a hydrophobic Aqua-Dura coating on the external glass repels smudges. An E67 filter thread accepts standard filters.
