Consistent Across The Family

The RF L VCM primes were designed as a set. This one measures 76.5 x 99.3 mm and weighs 555 g, within a couple of millimeters and a few grams of the 24mm and the 20mm, and all of them take 67mm front filters. Swap lenses on a gimbal or in a matte box and the rebalancing is minor. One set of filters covers the whole family.

Iris Ring And Focus Behavior

A manual iris ring on the barrel lets you change aperture by hand mid-take rather than in steps through the camera. Focus breathing is kept low, so a rack from near to far does not visibly change the framing. A voice coil motor drives the rear group and a Nano USM drives the floating group, working independently or together, quietly enough that a camera-mounted mic will not hear them.

What To Know Going In

Fourteen elements in eleven groups, two UD and two aspherical, with ASC, SSC, and fluorine coatings on a dust and moisture sealed barrel. The honest caveat: Canon designed this expecting lens profile corrections to be applied, and uncorrected files show noticeable distortion and vignetting.
