Brand Leica Grade New

The Leica UVa II in E95 threads onto a 95mm lens front and absorbs ultraviolet light, which takes the blue cast out of distant daylight and open shade. It adds no color of its own, leaves contrast alone, and has no filter factor, so your exposure settings do not change when it goes on.

Both glass surfaces carry multiple layers of anti-reflection coating to hold down internal reflections and ghosting, and the ring is anodized aluminum rather than the brass Leica used on the older UVa filters, which keeps the weight down on an already large lens. It comes in a protective plastic case. If you want to talk through whether a filter belongs on your particular lens, ask us; the answer is not always yes.

Buy from an authorized Leica dealer like Camera West to ensure a genuine product with full manufacturer warranty and expert support.

What the UVa II Does

Ultraviolet light is what puts a blue cast into distant daylight and open shade. The UVa II absorbs it without adding color of its own and without touching contrast, so nothing else in the frame shifts. There is no filter factor either, so exposure settings stay exactly where you set them.

Coatings and Ring

Both surfaces carry multiple layers of anti-reflection coating, which is what keeps internal reflections and ghosting from showing up when a light source sits in or near the frame. The ring is anodized aluminum instead of the brass Leica used on the older UVa filters, so the E95 stays lighter on the front of an already large lens.

Front Protection, With a Caveat

Plenty of owners leave a UVa II on permanently as a shield for the front element, and on a 95mm lens that is an expensive piece of glass to protect. The honest caveat is that any extra surface can cost you a little in strong backlight, so if you shoot into the sun regularly, be ready to take it off.
