The Panasonic Lumix S1R II marks a bold step forward as a hybrid powerhouse and new flagship model in the Lumix lineup. Designed for professional photographers and content creators alike, it merges extraordinary image quality, high-speed performance, and professional video tools into a compact, full-frame mirrorless system. At its core is a newly developed 44.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor and a 779-point Phase Hybrid AF system, both of which build on the success of its predecessor. With up to 8K 10-bit video recording, faster autofocus, and expanded dynamic range, the S1R II delivers improved performance across both stills and video.

The camera’s 44.3MP full-frame sensor, combined with the upgraded L2 Engine, strikes a balance between resolution, speed, and low-light performance. It supports burst shooting up to 40 fps with continuous autofocus and offers a High Resolution mode that can create stunning 177MP stills—even handheld—using sensor-shift technology. Enhanced noise reduction and improved color science further boost image quality, especially at high ISOs (ranging from 40 to 102400), making the camera suitable for demanding landscape, studio, and wildlife photography.

Video capabilities are another major highlight. The S1R II delivers 8K 30p and 4K 120p 10-bit video, supporting formats like ProRes RAW HQ for internal recording. It also enables 6.4K open-gate shooting and offers up to 14 stops of dynamic range for professional postproduction flexibility. Real-time LUTs, waveforms, vector scopes, and false color options ensure accurate monitoring and grading on set. Additionally, 32-bit float audio recording is available using the optional DMW-XLR2 adapter, giving filmmakers robust control over both visuals and sound.

A key new feature is the Phase Hybrid Autofocus system, which dramatically improves focus acquisition and tracking. With 779 PDAF points and AI-powered subject detection, the camera can accurately track people, animals, and vehicles—even in low light. This ensures both stills and video benefit from fast, reliable focusing and smooth transitions.

Image stabilization has also seen a leap forward. The S1R II includes an 8-stop, 5-axis in-body stabilization system and 7-stop Dual I.S. when used with O.I.S.-equipped lenses. For video shooters, Active I.S. maintains stable footage even during handheld walking or panning, with no crop applied.

The body of the S1R II is robust yet lightweight at only 1.75 lb, a significant reduction from its predecessor. The camera features a durable magnesium alloy build, sealed controls, and is dust-, splash-, and freeze-resistant. It offers dual card slots (CFexpress Type B and SD), a 3.2” 4-axis tilting touchscreen LCD, and a high-resolution 5.76m-dot OLED EVF. With Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and support for Lumix Lab and Lumix Flow, it integrates seamlessly into mobile workflows. Connectivity includes full-size HDMI, USB-C, microphone input, headphone output, and support for direct-to-SSD recording. A new closed shutter function lets users decide whether the shutter remains open or closed when powered off, further protecting the sensor.
